Obituary for Marian E. Mosser

Marian E. Mosser, 99, of Lehighton, passed on to eternal life on November 20, 2017. Born in Lehighton, where she lived most of her life, Marian also lived for a time in Bethlehem and Nesquehoning. She was the daughter of the late Harry “Jimmy” and Myrtle (Klotz) Yenser. Her husband of 47 years, Herman M. Mosser, died in 1989. She was the last member of her generation on both sides of her family. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton.

Marian was a 1936 graduate of Lehighton High School and a 1940 graduate of East Stroudsburg State Teachers College (now University) with a B.S. in Education. An accomplished violinist, Marian was the Concertmaster of both her high school and college orchestras. She was an elementary teacher in the Lehighton Area School District, retiring in 1982. Loved, admired and respected by her students for her kind but firm demeanor, Marian was dedicated to assuring her students’ success. Early in her teaching career she spent three years with the East Mauch Chunk School District, and taught Special Education for Carbon County Schools in 1956-57. She was a member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 203, Lehighton Lady Elks and Women’s Club. She formerly served as Secretary of the Lehighton Area School District Citizens’ Advisory Council, a member of the district’s Building Committee and Treasurer of the Lehighton Senior Center.

Marian’s oldest grandchildren called her “Nam” when they were learning to talk, and that’s how she was always known by nearly her entire family. We will lovingly remember our regular Saturday visits as her grandchildren were growing up, and more recently the good times with her great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Larry and wife Diane of Lake Hauto, Nesquehoning, and Terry and wife Lori of Richmond, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Brent and wife Elizabeth of Nottingham, MD, Eric and wife Elise of Palmyra, Sally and husband Matthew Kresge of Ephrata, and Ryan of Lexington, Kentucky; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis Kresge, Evan Mosser, Sophia Kresge, Emily Mosser, Trent Kresge, John Mosser and Christian Mosser; and ten nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Ruth David and a great-grandson, Luke Mosser.
