The present site of Schaeffer Funeral Home has been serving the Lehighton community as a funeral home since 1944. Wendell D. Swartz purchased the Victorian mansion from John S. Lentz and converted the property into a funeral home.
In 1947 William A. Garrett purchased the funeral home from Wendell Swartz and was the owner and operator from 1947-1988.
Kenneth N. Phifer then purchased the funeral home from William Garrett and was the owner and operator from 1988-1998.
In January of 1999 current owner and operator, Corey A. Schaeffer, purchased the funeral home from Kenneth Phifer.
Corey A. Schaeffer is a lifelong resident of Lehighton. He graduated from Lehighton Area High School in 1991. He attended Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ from 1991-1993 before transferring to Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, to enter the funeral service program. In 1995, he received his Associates Degree in Applied Science in Funeral Service Education from Northampton Community College.
Prior to the purchase of the funeral home, Corey worked for Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home, Weatherly, from 1995-1998 and for Kenneth Phifer Funeral Home from 1997-1998.
Corey is married to Rebecca (Gilbert) Schaeffer, also a lifelong resident of Lehighton. They have four children, Riley, Jackson, Grant, & Rowan and reside at the funeral home.
