Obituary for Jennie Kresge

Jennie E. Kresge, 100, of Lehighton, PA passed away on Saturday, July 22, in the Mahoning Valley Nursing Center, Mahoning Township, Lehighton. She was the wife of the late Kenneth E. Kresge who passed away in 1953. Born in Jamestown on June 10, 1917, Jennie was the daughter of the late Henry W. Balliet and Myrtle R. (nee Smith) Balliet. She attended the Packerton School and worked as a sewing machine operator for many garment companies including Peerless Mills from which she retired in 1967. Jennie was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Lehighton where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a former member of the V.F.W. Post #256 Auxiliary, Lehighton and was an avid bingo player. Jennie especially loved to sew and enjoyed making clothes for her family including bridal dolls and bridesmaid’s dresses. She is survived by a son Kenneth Kresge and his wife Sharon of Tamaqua, PA and a daughter Kathryn Oppold of Palmerton, PA; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The last member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene Nothstein who passed away in 1999; brothers, Harry and Francis Balliet; and two sisters, Erma Bonser and Rella Gerhardt. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, July 31 at the Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, 440 South 4th Street, Lehighton. Memorials in Jennie’s name may be made to Ascend Hospice, 108 Cowpath Road, Lansdale, PA 19446. Online condolences may be made at www.schaefferfunerals.com.
